Intermediate Theory

A good understanding of the basics of metaphor theory will help you read more carefully and preach more effectively. But trying to put the theory into practice will necessarily raise some more questions about how metaphor actually works. Eventually, this section of the blog will contain more information about topics like so called “dead metaphor,” interaction and blend theory, the relationship between correspondence and development, and other complexities. Check back later for more on these topics. For now, I offer a description of the relationship between central and more peripheral metaphors within a theological framework, a distinction vital for the preaching task.
